Ear muffs or ear plugs are sometimes used in bondage to restrict the hearing of the bound partner. Just like other variants of sensory deprivation, this is done to heighten other senses, or create elements of surprise.
Larger ear muffs work better than simple ear plugs. They however can be difficult to manage, especially if the person is moving much. Head gear with integrated ear covers needs to be measured very accurately to work well.
Auditory deprivation does not usually cause any problems but people with disturbance of equilibrium or uncontrolled blood pressure can become dizzy and lose balance, especially under stress (i.e. from being tied in uncomfortable positions or a flogging.
