This article is about crosses similar to the one used in Jesus crucifixion not X-Frames (St. Andrews Cross). These crosses are used in (surprise) crucifixion play but are also very useful to restrain people for floggings or other torture. Some people experience the similarity to biblical crucifixions as an extra rush of religious play.

Building A Cross

The construction of a cross is virtually identical to the X-Frame. Extra care needs to be taken on free standing crosses because of the way the subject is restrained. With an X-Frame the subject has legs spread fairly wide apart, giving the person some balance. Since the ankles of a person on a crucifixion cross are often tied together the subject has no way of balancing. This means the free standing cross does not only need to support its own weight but the weight of the person pulling into one direction.
Thicker materials for the upright beam are also recommended, 8 8 (20x20cm) beams are not unheard of.
