TENS units (short for Trans-cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator) are devices designed to stimulate nerve endings without breaking the skin. Originally designed as a method to relieve pain, sadists have adopted TENS units as a form of electrical pain. TENS units are able to cause anything from mild, barely noticeable trembling to agony in the subject depending on the setting.
Another form of electrical play are Violet Wands.

TENS Dos

To keep your TENS unit in proper shape always:

  • Make sure it is properly connected to the electrical outlet (some units need to be grounded, others don’t. Do not use adapters to run units with ground connectors on ungrounded outlets).
  • Make sure the pads are in good shape, replace them if necessary
  • Store unit in dry places.

TENS Don'ts

Since TENS units are a form of electrical play, certain care has to be taken.

  • Do not use TENS units anywhere on the head, including in mouth or nose, near the ears or temples. Also, the front of your neck should be off limits.
  • Do not use on areas of broken, bruised or numb skin.
  • Do not use when pregnant.
  • Do not use near the heart.
  • Do not use units designed to operate with dry pads when pads get wet.
  • Do not use when severely dehydrated
  • Do not use when drunk.
