The heretic’s fork was one of the most unique torture devices from medieval Europe. The center piece was used to tie a strap around the subject’s neck. The ends - each built as a two prong fork similar to modern BBQ forks - would then the pointed against the chest and under the chin of the victim. Once impaled in the flesh, the victim could not move or lower his head without severe pain. In addition to that, once the end of the fork had punctured the soft underside of the jaw, blood would seep into the wearers mouth. This was combined with a muzzle, forcing the victim to swallow his own blood or drown in it.
