Body bags are large bags made of a thick, non-porous plastic used for transportation and short term storage of bodies. A zipper is used to seal the bag air tight.
For BDSM play, the bag is modified to allow for breathing. This is usually done by cutting several larger breathing holes into the bag. Alternatively, a single hole and a breathing tube as used in vacuum beds can be used. With sufficient care, the illusion of full enclosure can be kept by making breathing holes on the side or bottom of the bag. In addition to breathing, watch out for overheating. The plastic material traps body heat fairly well so keep cold water and some damp towels handy to cool off if the enclosed person overheats. Never use body bags by yourself.
If the confinement of a body bag is not intense enough, bondage tape or rope can be used over the body bag to restrain the person further. This is similar to mummification.
Sleep sacks are sometimes used as a replacement for a body bag since they can still confine a person while the material allows for breathing.
Body bags can be purchased at most medical supply stores or online. Single bags usually cost between USD 18 and USD 60, depending on thickness, color and size.
